What is a web developer

Because it is important for business to have an online presence they usually need someone to build their website. Whether it is a simple static website with a few pages or a complex website with many users and a complex level of administration (let’s say for an online newspaper). Because of this large demand they are numerous jobs opportunities.
Something to clarify before going further on, a web developer and a web designer are two different jobs. People tend to confuse themselves. The web designer is working on creating the graphics of a website and all the visuals. He usually doesn’t do any programming.
If you want to start a career in web development you will have to take a bachelor or a master of science in computer science. If you are specialized in software engineering you’ll need to practice on web components in order to understand how web development works. It’s also possible if you prefer learning on your own you can read tutorial from books but also from the internet.
Because when you start you won’t have much experience you’ll be a junior developer but you can quickly become a senior developer after a few year of practice. The highest level of this career is to become a technical director where you take care of many web developers in different project.
This career attracts people because you can work as a freelance wherever you are. On the other hand if you prefer working for a company you can either choose to work for a web agency on various projects or a web based company and you’ll be working on one website dedicated to the company’s service.
Web developing is close to software engineering. The difference is that a web developer works on online applications which are accessible via a browser.  Web development can be divided into two different roles: front end and back end developers.
The front end is the interface which can be seen by all users.  A front end developer’s work is to integrate the design of a web site. The main programming language used to do so are: html, css and javascript. He has to make sure the design on the screen of all users (depending on their browsers, screen size) is the same for all of them. Plus he has to make sure it looks like the design the web designer has done.
On the other side we have the back end developer. His job is very technical has he has to work on the administration panel. It is the place where the admin of a website can write content, manage users, and upload different media (photo, video, music). He also has to make sure the connection between the database and the website is working fine. All the data on the website is stored into a database in order to manage it easily, in most website it is MySQL which handles this. The programming languages used by back end developers are usually php and .net. There are many other internet jobs related to marketing or graphic design too.
