BioShock Infinite PS3 'is not only a port'

Irrational Games has assured PS3 gamers that their version in the upcoming BioShock Infinite are not a port of another platform's game because, basically, there isn't any lead platform.

"We're intent on making certain the PS3 version is excellent," a rep told fans who're concerned on the previous game's weaker performance on PS3 - playstation 3 dualshock controller

"We don't have plans to hand heli-copter flight PS3 version of BioShock Infinite to a different one studio. In truth, it is not a "port" in any respect. We now have a a greater team than we did within the original BioShock, so we're doing simultaneous in-house development around the PS3, 360, and PC versions with the game," they added - playstation dual shock controller .

"We are all aware the fact that PS3 is powerful but unique console featuring a own strengths and challenges. But in comparison to the PC, the Xbox 360 elite is challenging too. So as opposed to declaring a "lead platform" and porting the action for the others, we've instead changed the sport engine making sure that all platforms look (with a programmer) more like a PS3."

It gets technical from here, however it is an appealing procedure for development: "This means implementing a task-oriented task processor that assumes a NUMA (non-uniform memory access) design that mimics the PPU/SPU split of the PS3. Writing code with this might be more a hardship on us, but carries a key advantage: it's both optimal with the PS3 *and* gives speed improvements on other platforms caused by increased cache coherence plus more efficient using multiple processing units - playstation 3 dualshock 3 controller ."

The rep also assures gamers that testers have "PS3 and 360 dev kits on the desks, and will test for the PS3 just as easily as to the 360", while an automatic dev tool that "rebuilds the PS3 version and runs basic tests on there each time a programmer or artist creates a switch to the game."
