Reaching Your Goal as a Certified Nurses AssistantThe job description of a certified nursing assistant comes under several banners. Two popular terms are ‘nursing aide’ or ‘orderly’, which have possibly become well-known due to several television serials about doctors, nurses and orderlies. Being an orderly can be a very rewarding career choice. It is also the type of career that can take you into your senior years, by either working full time or as a part-time nursing assistant. If this is your career choiceand if you want to be recognized as a professional then your first step is to enroll in a certified nursing assistant (CNA) training programme. You have a choice of either working at a hospital that offers hands-on training, enrolling at a physical college that provides CNA training, or, if neither of these is possible, perhaps an online training course could be a better option. What kind of work would you expect to perform as a CNA? This can vary depending on the type of hospital or institution where you might be employed. Some of these options are listed below. Before you make a choice, remember that a person who becomes a certified nursing assistant must be able to interact with people. A warm and empathetic personality would also be an asset. A hospital certified nursing assistant would be required to work under the supervision of a registered nurse. Duties would involve washing infirm patients and caring for their basic needs. Hospitals are finding that this is the most convenient way to care for patients, and, at the same time, it allows registered nurses to concentrate on their other nursing responsibilities. Some hospitals will allow their employees to study as a CNA while in their employment. Other hospitals will also refund any fees incurred, providing the candidates give a written promise to work for the institution for a certain period after training has been completed. Another option is to work in a private home, either living in or working as a daily employee. Depending on your employer, this can also be an interesting post. You would only be responsible for one person’s basic needs, which would probably give you more freedom. Whichever path you take, you will find rewarding, but it is essential to attain CNA certification. Working in an old age home can also be a rewarding experience, especially if you are interested in caring for the elderly. However, it is essential that a CNA has lots of compassion and an excellent understanding of the needs of elderly frail care patients. It is also necessary not to show too much emotion. Some patients can be in a pitiful condition so it is necessary to control your feelings. Whatever your choice, you will gain much job satisfaction from this work. |
