Money Saving Tips For 2012

If one of your New Years resolutions was to start saving money, then you made a wise choice. The next step is to put your goal into action with cost-conscious strategies. We can share some tips on how to stick to it.

How can you save money? You have to spend some money, but you can learn how to spend it wisely. We’ve listed some ideas to help you save more money in 2012.

1. Prepare a budget- Write down your expenses and how much incoming money you get. Prepare a budget of what you will need to spend, and then figure out where you can cut the costs and save. Having it on paper will help you see where you are financially and where you can afford to cut back.

2. Stop unnecessary shopping- After-Christmas sales are always tempting, but before you give into that unnecessary addition to your wardrobe or what have you, stop and think. Do you really need that item? If it’s not something you will be needing in the near future, then walk past it. That is money you could be using on more important things later.

3. Stop using credit cards- Give up using the credit. Whenever you buy anything, do it with cash. Seeing the money actually leave your pockets will make it more real to you, and you will be more picky about what you are spending your cash on. This will also prevent more money from adding up on your credit card so you can focus on lowering that bill.

4. Create a debt pay off plan- In the New Year, work toward paying off all of your debt. Work on paying off your credit cards rather than adding onto them. If possible, try to do a balance transfer to a 0% interest rate card.

5. Eat In- There is nothing like a good home cooked meal, so make an effort to prepare your lunches and dinners at home. We don’t realize how much money we spend when we eat out often, but when you shop at the grocery store, you take note of how much you are spending. Chances are, when you eat out frequently, you are spending double what you would at the market. So go grocery shopping and add the expense to your budget, and if you can, set aside some money for eating out each month, and don’t go over that amount.

6. Choose low-cost family entertainment- The good thing is that quality time does not have to be expensive. Pack a lunch and spend the day at the park or beach. Have a movie or game night at home, and take turns on who gets to pick the movie/game. Find out the specials at your local bowling alley. If you go on the right night, you can save some cash. There are so many fun things you can do together without spending tons of money. You just need a little creativity.

Try these tips to save money and you will find that your savings account starts to grow. Of course there are times when you might find yourself in need of cash instantly, in which case you should consider an auto title loan.
