What Are Electric Fence Energisers

Electric fence energisers are usually used in the farming industry to prevent access to wild animals and protect your own animals from roaming unnecessarily. This process works by an electric energiser which converts power (whether it’s solar, mains or battery) to pulses which are then pushed down the electric fence line. The key to this is that while the pulses are high voltage they contain low amperage, similar to static electricity. This makes them safe but will provide an unpleasant experience to anyone who comes into contact with the fence.

Deciding on which Electric fence energiser to buy will depend on a variety of factors including the area you wish to be protected, the kind of animal stock you keep, and the animals you wish to keep out and the environment you keep the animals in.

The difference in electric fence energisers comes in their varying pushing power and energy. I.e how far can they maintain the pushing power of the pulse whilst maintain voltage. There is also the difference in energy sources such as mains, battery or solar.
Obviously the more fence you have or plan to have will depend on the type of energiser required. To work this out the formula is normally (length of fence x the number of lines tape/rope/wire needed).

In terms of power source, again this will depend upon your requirements. Mains energisers will need a lead out cable, battery – which runs on a 12v battery or solar – which can come in either solar power battery packs or a solar stand feeding the battery. Solar panel energisers will need adequate sun to charge the solar pack.
Another factor to choosing the correct electric fence energiser is the type of animal you are trying to protect again or protect the safety of. For example carnivorous animals such as the fox, wolf etc, will need a stronger energiser and well insulated animals such as the sheep, badger or fox, will also need a higher voltage electric fence energiser.

The environment the energiser is to be used in can also effect the performance of the product. For example electric netting is usually placed nearer vegetation where it comes into contact with the earth. This can cause earthing and power loss rendering the energiser ineffective.

Points to remember when purchasing your electric fence energiser is that if you plan to extend the fence in the future, it is always advisable to purchase a stronger energiser than is needed, so that you expansion plans won’t cause loss of voltage through the fence/tape/wire.

Protecting your farm is priority for most in the farming industry. There is now a whole market of products and services dedicated to providing this. From coal bunkers, shock bark collars, you can find a wide range of items dedicated to making the life of the farmer easier. Most stores now have an online shop with delivery service meaning you shop around for the best products on the market available and shop safely.
