GROOMS’ CAKES

Wedding cakes for “proper” weddings were delicate displays of white cake with white frosting only, no exceptions.  No self-respecting mother-of-the-bride would allow anything else.

Fast forward, 21st century, Wedding cakes are no longer only the traditional white and groom’s cakes are as varied as the grooms themselves.  A question we often get at Affordable EleganceCatering is, “Do I need a groom’s cake?”  The best answer is a question, “Does the groom need a groom’s cake?”  Many questions involving wedding planning defer to the bride’s preference.  This one should be totally left to the groom.

Groom’s cakes can reflect a hobby, sports, or special interest of the groom.  We’ve done everything from 3-D Mallard ducks to Budweiser beer cans, not to mention a myriad of Jayhawks, Tigers,

Power Cats, and Chiefs themed cakes.  A recent trend has been to do a smaller chocolate replica of the wedding cake.  Some brides also have great fun planning a “WOW” groom’s cake as a surprise.  The groom’s cake can be as simple as a decorated sheet cake or as elaborate as the imagination and budget can take it.

One popular and practical use for the groom’s cake is as dessert for the rehearsal dinner.  Grooms cakes can also be used to complete the number of servings needed if the wedding cake design doesn’t serve the total number of guests anticipated.  Another popular choice is to make the groom’s cake a small cake that the bride and groom take with them for a private celebration.

Normally, wedding planners advise “If it’s important to the bride, then it’s important.”  Finally, the rare answer…”If it’s important to the groom, then it’s important.”
